Look out Texas! This Nor'easter is heading
I'm excited to head to Texas this month for one of my favorite annual
events, the SXSW Music,
FIlm and Interacitve Festival. This year, I'm more stoked than ever
because I will be speaking on a brilliant panel called Exploring
Place with Cross-Platform Storytelling. Be there or be square.
Battle for Jerusalem Makes Jewish
Countless battles have been fought to capture her and claim her
religious glory. Now, under Jewish sovereignty, a different battle is
being waged in the Israeli capital—a battle for her soul, says
Brooklyn-based filmmaker Liz Nord, creator of the forthcoming documentary
'Battle for Jerusalem.' Newspapers across the Jewish world learned
about the project when the Jewish News Service picked up this
TED! TED! TED!
Yes, it is worth three exclamation points to announce that I am officially
a TED-talker. Watch a video of my talk here: "What
Jerusalem Can Teach About Fighting a Culture War." I
will presented among a fantastic lineup of speakers at TEDxDumbo in
Brooklyn, NY. The dayís event focused on the future of cities, and I
discussed Jerusalem Unfiltered
and how to fight a culture war by turning friction into creative
possibility. I am beyond thrilled to join the ranks of some of the worldís
most exciting and inspiring visionaries
who have spoken at past world-renowned TED events.
PBS Wants Liz's Point of View
I'm thrilled to have been invited as a regular contributor to the blog
PBS's renowned documentary series. I'll be writing about the unique
transmedia approach I'm taking with Battle for Jerusalem and its
associated web and mobile components, Jerusalem Unfiltered. Hence, my
first post: "5
Reasons Why my Next film is coming to the web first."

What do a Transgender Professor, Millenial
Actress, & Liz Have in Common?
We were all guests on the most recent episode of The
Salon, where we engaged in a lively and interesting discussion hosted
by prominent media blogger Rachel Sklar and Forward editor Jane Eisner.
Check out some clips of this smart group chatting about everything from
same-sex marriage to HBO's Girls here.
Talk, Talk, Talk
The first quarter of 2012 was full of great conversations,
as I was invited to speak and engage in several interesting forums.
I spoke to the Bronfman Youth Fellows about being part of the Jewish
cultural scene, emceed a lively discussion about religious-based gender
discrimination in Israel for the New
Israel Fund, and--most fun of all--read about meeting some of my
punk heroes at Vol.

Limmud NY: Sharing Mad skills in the Catskills
I’m so excited to be presenting
in three sessions at the upcoming Limmud
NY conference, or what I’ve been referring to as “Jewish
TED.” I’ll be showing exclusive new clips from Jerusalem
Unfiltered and talking about some of the fascinating, Jerusalemite
changemakers I interviewed, as well as showing excerpts from my first
film Jericho’s Echo: Punk
Rock in the Holy Land, and participating in a panel discussion about
women’s rights in Israel with some very smart co-panelists. Join
me in the Catskills January 13-16!
Liz Joins The FilmShop Leadership
Honored to announce that I'll be joining The
FilmShop's Brooklyn chapter leadership after participating as a
member for the past two years. I'll be managing our
blog, filled with behind-the-scenes stories of member projects,
and helping run our weekly member workshops. Can't wait to see the great
work that comes out of our talented group this season!
I'm on a Mexican Radio (If by "Mexican,"
you mean "Internet")
Episodes of two radio shows that I was recently a guest
on are now available online. On Rusty
Mike Radio in Jerusalem, we talked everything from the President’s
conference, to the Jerusalem Film Festival, to summer action in the
city, to–of course–Battle for Jerusalem and Jerusalem Unfiltered.
I also had a lot of fun as a guest on the D.I.Y. episode of the Mike
& Judy Show straight outta Brooklyn!
Production on Battle
for Jerusalem and its new multimedia component, Jerusalem Unfiltered,
continues in Israel through mid-July. Liz will also be representing
at the ROI Summit, the Israeli President's Conference, and the Jerusalem
Film Festival. Incredible stories are sure to emerge as we follow our
characters from last summer and further explore the Holy Land. Follow
the adventures on the BFJ
Liz on "New Directions in Jewish Film"
I was honored to be part of the lineup of speakers and
events celebrating the San
Francisco Jewish Federation’s Centennial this month, discussing
“New Directions in Jewish Filmmaking” with the wonderful
Peter Stein of the SF Jewish Film Festival and filmmaker Sam Ball. It
was exciting to be in my home-away-from home and to share the spotlight
with some other incredible people, like one of my favorite authors,
Michael Chabon, and NY Times columnist David Brooks.
